Acalypha
Taxonomic Information System

This checklist intended to include all names related to Acalypha (about 1,700), including other genera considered synonym. We also include invalid names and other misquoted names appearing in the literature. The initial compilation was based on the International Plants Name Index (IPNI) and Plants of the World Online (POWO) and subsequently crosschecked, corrected and enlarged with entries from any other source.

In order to designate a taxon as accepted, synonym or invalid name, we also follow, as a rule, IPNI and POWO criteria, unless new information is available. Whenever possible, we indicate (under Fide heading) the most updated bibliographic source/s where the status of each name is validated.

For every accepted name, the “distribution” heading lists the countries where the taxon is found, as well as the continents or regions according to TDWG standards. The main source for such information is POWO and our own research. The geographic information is not comprehensive and is updated as our knowledge of the genus improves.

In most cases, the information about the nomenclatural types has been obtained from the original publications and from the subsequent typifications carried out.
